Parallax of Caravaggio's 𝐶𝑎𝑙𝑙𝑖𝑛𝑔 𝑜𝑓 𝑆𝑎𝑖𝑛𝑡 𝑀𝑎𝑡𝑡ℎ𝑒𝑤 (1599-1600).
To achieve this effect, I separated out the subjects in the painting based on their distance
from the viewer in Photoshop. For the background, I removed all the subjects and used the
Content-aware fill tool. Then, I brought the Photoshop (.PSD) file into After Effects and carefully
animated the scale for each layer to create the illusion of depth. Next, the text is an image of
Caravaggio's signature masked to appear as though it is being written onto the scene.
As a final touch, I added a particle emitter in the top left to simulate dust floating past the lit window.
